Abelvattnet power plant
In July 2008, the Swedish Environmental Court approved the construction of the new hydro power plant Abelvattnet, in the Ume Älv River, close to the Norwegian border. The environmental impact of the facility will be limited since it will use a dam and a discharge tunnel that have already been in place since the 1960s. The facility was put into operation in January 2011

Increased generation and security

The project includes the installation of a 4.6 MW unit as well as increasing the security of the existing dam. These security measures are being taken to be able to handle the "10,000 year flood" – an extreme flow of water that is expected to occur once every 10,000 years.
